How to Prevent Water Damage in your home or business

Water leaks in your home or business can amp up the bills, damage the structure of your property and encourage the growth of mold. To stop the damage, you need to stop the leak. However, it sometimes takes more effort to find the leak than to repair it.
Hot Water Tanks
Check the hot water tanks, especially the pressure relief valve on it. In most cases, these valves are connected to the drain and might be leaking. The best way to check it is to check the drain pipe thoroughly. However, if you can’t check this pipe, you need to pay close attention to any unusual hissing sound coming from it. If you hear that sound, there’s definitely a leak in the pipe.
Toilets
Leakage in toilets is also less obvious and difficult to spot. To check here, you need to remove the lid of the tank and listen carefully. If you hear the same hissing sound, it’s very likely that there’s a leak in the tank. Try to locate it and see if you can fix the problem.
However, if you can’t find the leak, add a few drops of food coloring in the tank. Wait for a few moments to see if the water in the toilet bowl changes color. If it does, there’s a leak in the flapper, which is located at the bottom of your tank. The flapper might be letting the water through.
